Sustainable building renovation in residential buildings: barriers and potential motivations in Norwegian culture

Retrofit of existing housing increases the possibility meeting Sustainable Development Goals. Improving quality life, minimising energy consumption and increasing productivity in buildings process with aim affordable (social, environmental, economic sustainability) set new demands for renovation amongst residential Norway. Most studies to date emphasised on mitigation CO2 emissions building sector through renovations. However, recent started evaluating why such plans may not be considered by property owners. This study investigates potential barriers motivations Building Renovations (SBR) from house-owners’ perspective discusses role urban Facility Management (FM) promoting SBR. Results a questionnaire survey 341 citizens Trondheim city, Norway, confirm issues as main barrier SBR respondents suggesting different forms financial support resolve these barriers. Social engagement public/private partners neighbours illustrates collective motivation requires an intermediary like FM engaging co-create their needs areas sectors. The output this helps promote targets neighbourhoods.
